Static Site Hosting for HTML, Hugo and Jekyll

Host plain HTML or a Hugo or Jekyll build on VeloxaHost: Git deploy into the web root, a subdirectory for build output, free HTTPS and gzip from $6.99/mo.

A Static site on VeloxaHost serves files. Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, a single-page app, or the output of a generator such as Hugo or Jekyll: put it in a public Git repository, point the site at it, and the files are served on your domain over HTTPS with a free Let's Encrypt certificate and gzip compression. Each site is its own container, with files kept apart from your other sites.

There is nothing to run. No PHP, no Node.js process, no database. That makes a Static site the lightest thing on any hosting plan.

Deploy from Git

What a deploy does

The site's Deploy from Git card asks for a Repository URL (https), a Branch, an optional Subdirectory and an Auto-deploy schedule (Manual / webhook only, Every hour or Every day). A deploy makes a shallow clone of the branch and replaces everything in the web root, /var/www/html, with the repository, or with only the subdirectory when you set one. It does not run a build.

So for a generator, deploy its output folder:

Generator Build command (from its docs) Output folder
Hugo hugo build public/
Jekyll jekyll build (often bundle exec jekyll build) _site/
Astro astro build dist/
Next.js static export next build with output: 'export' out/

Set Subdirectory to that folder. Deploying a folder, rather than the whole repository, also keeps your sources and Git data out of the web root.

A worked deploy: a Hugo site

  1. In the console, open Websites, click Add Website, enter your domain and pick Static under Hosting type. Click Create Website. Setup takes a few minutes and serves a welcome page.
  2. Add the DNS records shown under DNS — point your domain here: an A record for the domain and for www, and a TXT record that proves the domain is yours. HTTPS is issued once they resolve.
  3. Set baseURL = "https://example.com/" in your Hugo config, run hugo build, and commit the public/ folder. (Hugo projects often ignore public/ in .gitignore; remove that line, or publish from CI as below.)
  4. On the site's page, open Deploy from Git, click Deploy, enter the repository URL, the Branch (main) and Subdirectory public, and click Deploy Now. Refresh to see the result under Recent deploys.
  5. For updates on every push, copy the CI Webhook URL into your CI secrets and call it after a build: curl -fsS -X POST "$VELOXAHOST_DEPLOY_HOOK". One deploy runs per site at a time; a call during a deploy gets a 409.

To build in CI instead of committing the output, publish it to a separate branch and deploy that branch. The Astro hosting page has a GitHub Actions workflow that does this; change the build command and the output folder for Hugo or Jekyll.

Plain HTML

No generator? Keep index.html and your assets in the repository (or in a folder such as site/, then set Subdirectory), and deploy. The Every hour and Every day schedules redeploy the saved branch, so a site edited on GitHub updates itself without a webhook.

Supported versions

Component Version
Content Any static files: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts
Generators Any. They run in your CI or on your machine, not on the site

Because nothing runs on the site, there is no runtime to keep up to date. Pin your generator's version in CI so builds stay repeatable.

Which plan fits

Launch ($6.99/month) hosts 3 websites with 20 GB NVMe storage, and each site gets up to 5 GB of disk, which is plenty for most static sites. Grow ($12.99/month) hosts 10 websites, Scale ($24.99/month) 25 and Business ($49.99/month) 100, for agencies running many small sites; on Scale and Business each site gets 2 GB of disk. Yearly billing is ten times the monthly price. Compare them on pricing.

Limits and when to use a VPS

  • No server-side code. Forms, search and comments need a third-party service or an API you host elsewhere. Add privacy-friendly analytics by running Plausible or Umami on a VPS.
  • Unknown paths serve index.html. That is right for single-page apps, but a generator's 404.html is not shown for missing pages; visitors see the home page.
  • No custom redirects or headers. Files are served as they are. If you need rewrite rules, run your own web server, such as Nginx, on a VPS.
  • Public repositories only, with no build on the server.

FAQ

Do you build my Hugo or Jekyll site?

No. A Static site deploys the files in your branch as they are. Build locally or in CI, then deploy the output folder with Subdirectory.

Can I host a React or Vue single-page app?

Yes. Build it, deploy the output folder, and client-side routes work: any path without a file is answered with index.html.

Does the site support clean URLs?

Yes, when your generator writes folders with an index.html in each, which is Hugo's and Astro's default. /about then serves /about/index.html.

Can I upload files without Git?

Yes. The site's Open File Manager button opens a file manager for the web root. The next Git deploy replaces those files.

Is HTTPS included?

Yes, free. Once the DNS records resolve, a Let's Encrypt certificate is issued and renewed for the domain and www.

Static sites run on any managed hosting plan, from Launch at $6.99/month. Framework facts were checked on 2026-10-18 against: gohugo.io/getting-started/usage, jekyllrb.com/docs/usage, docs.astro.build/en/guides/deploy, nextjs.org/docs/app/guides/static-exports.
