What Is a One-Click App?
A one-click app is software a host installs on a new server for you, such as n8n or WordPress. When it saves time, and how VeloxaHost's app installs work.
A one-click app is a piece of software that a hosting provider installs and sets up on a new server for you. You pick the app, name the server and choose its size; the install runs on its own. You skip the setup commands and still end up with your own copy of the app.
How it works
The provider keeps a tested install script for each app. When you deploy, it creates a server, runs that script on the first start, installs the app and its dependencies, and sets passwords. When the script finishes, the app is running and you sign in to it.
The result is an ordinary server. You can change its settings, add software or back it up like any other server. Updates are usually yours to run, the way the app's own documentation describes.
When to use it
- You want to try an app, such as n8n, Uptime Kuma or Nextcloud, without spending an hour on setup.
- You run several self-hosted apps and want each on its own server.
- You know the app but not the server side of it: services, users, databases.
When not to use it
- You want to learn how the install works, or need a layout the script does not use. Follow a self-host guide on a plain VPS instead.
- You want the app run for you, with updates handled by someone else. A one-click app gives you the server, and with it the upkeep.
How it works on VeloxaHost
- Pick an app from the app directory or the console's marketplace, name the server, and set CPU, memory and disk at or above the app's minimums.
- Setup runs when the server first starts and can take a few minutes. Docker apps run from the app's own image.
- Passwords are generated. The install script's passwords are random, stored on the server's page, and owners can reveal them later; every reveal is in the audit log.
- You get root. The server comes with a browser terminal, root access, snapshots, live resizing and a shared IPv4 port block, with SSH on its first port.
- Billing. On Pay as you go, the app runs on a server size billed by the hour and capped at that size's monthly price; the smallest is Veloxa Nano ($4 a month, $0.01 an hour), and each app's page recommends a size. During the free trial or on a hosting plan, it runs within the plan's included allowance.
- Updates are yours. Update the app the way its own documentation says, and take a snapshot first so you can roll back.
FAQ
Is a one-click app different from installing it myself?
The end result is the same kind of server. The install script saves the setup steps; if you prefer to do it by hand, the self-host guides walk through the manual route for many apps.
Do I get root access to a one-click app's server?
Yes. It is your server, with root, the browser terminal and SSH.
Where do I find the app's password?
On the server's page in the console. The install generates it, and owners can reveal it there.
Who updates the app?
You do, from the server, following the app's own update instructions. A snapshot beforehand gives you a way back.
