VeloxaHost as an Elestio alternative
Moving off Elestio? Compare per-service managed app pricing with VeloxaHost one-click apps on hourly VPS capped monthly, for three small self-hosted apps.
Who should switch
Switch if you run a few small self-hosted apps on Elestio, such as n8n, Uptime Kuma or Vaultwarden, you are comfortable applying updates yourself, and you would rather pay for the server than for a managed service per app. Your users should be near the US East Coast, where VeloxaHost's one region is. Stay on Elestio if you want someone else to patch, update and back up every app, or if you need an app, a cloud provider or a region VeloxaHost does not offer; those are covered under "Where Elestio is the better pick" below.
Where Elestio falls short
Elestio deploys an app on its own virtual machine and looks after it: installation, configuration, OS and software updates, backups, monitoring and SSL. That service is what you pay for. Prices below are Elestio's as of 2026-10-18.
- Every app is its own paid service. Elestio says its plans start at $11 a month for a fully managed service on a dedicated VM, and the price depends on the cloud provider, region and size you pick. Three apps on three services cost at least three times that.
- Billing runs while a service exists. Elestio bills every hour a service is on your account, and says shutting down or powering off a service does not stop billing.
- You pay in advance. Services run on prepaid credits: you need at least $5 of credits to start a service, and if your balance reaches zero, your services are suspended.
- Faster support costs extra, per service. Level 1 support (3-day response time, email only) is included. Level 2 is $50 a service a month and Level 3 $200 a service a month.
- Traffic over the allowance is billed. Each plan includes bandwidth that depends on the provider (20 TB on Hetzner sizes), with overage from $0.05 per GB.
How VeloxaHost handles it
- One-click apps on your own server. The marketplace has 65 apps, including n8n, Uptime Kuma, Vaultwarden, Nextcloud, Ghost, WordPress, Gitea, PostgreSQL and Redis. A one-click install sets the app up on a server you get root on.
- A VPS billed by the hour, capped monthly. Root servers start at $4 a month for 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of disk, and $8 for 1 vCPU, 2 GB and 50 GB. They are billed by the hour and capped at the monthly price, so a server you delete after a day costs a day. Hourly charges are added to your paid subscription; there are no prepaid credits to top up.
- Snapshots and backups included. Snapshots and scheduled backups come with every plan, within each size's allowance.
- What you give up. VeloxaHost installs the app but does not keep it updated for you: OS patches and app upgrades are your job. There are no private networks, floating IPs or load balancers in the region yet. Each server gets a block of ports on the region's shared IPv4 address; ports 80 and 443 need a dedicated IPv4 address, a paid add-on with limited availability. VeloxaHost runs one region, US East, in the Washington, DC area.
The pricing math
Take three small apps that each run on their own server: n8n for automations, Uptime Kuma for monitoring and Vaultwarden for passwords. Elestio's per-size prices depend on the provider and region you choose, so its column uses the starting price it publishes.
| Elestio | VeloxaHost | |
|---|---|---|
| n8n | Managed service: from $11 | Veloxa 1 VPS (1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB disk) from the marketplace: $8 |
| Uptime Kuma | Managed service: from $11 | Veloxa Nano VPS (1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 25 GB disk): $4 |
| Vaultwarden | Managed service: from $11 | Veloxa Nano VPS: $4 |
| Per month | from $33 | $16 |
Larger sizes widen the gap in money terms. Elestio's published price for a 2 vCPU, 4 GB service on Netcup is $16 a month; on VeloxaHost, a Veloxa 2 server with 2 vCPU, 4 GB and 80 GB of disk is $15.
Two honest caveats. First, Elestio's price includes work that VeloxaHost leaves to you: OS patches, app updates, monitoring and remote backups kept in another datacenter (7 days on Level 1). If you would otherwise pay someone to do that, compare on that basis. Second, Elestio publishes a bandwidth allowance for each provider, while VeloxaHost's plan list does not publish one, so if you expect heavy outbound traffic, ask support before you move.

Where Elestio is the better pick
- You want the apps maintained for you. Elestio handles installation, OS and software updates, backups, monitoring and alerts for every service.
- You need an app VeloxaHost does not have. Elestio lists more than 400 supported apps; VeloxaHost's marketplace has 66.
- You want to choose the cloud and the region. Elestio runs services on Hetzner, DigitalOcean, AWS Lightsail, Vultr, Linode, Scaleway and Netcup, in many regions. VeloxaHost has one region.
- You want your own servers managed. Elestio's bring-your-own-VM option manages apps on a server you already have, priced per vCPU, GB of RAM and disk, with one small BYOVM service free.
- You need a support SLA or phone support. Level 3 support has a 4-hour business-hours response time, phone support and a customer success manager.
Migrating from Elestio
There is no automatic importer. A move of one app usually goes like this:
- List what each service uses: the app and its version, the size, attached domains and any custom configuration.
- Create a VeloxaHost server from the matching marketplace app, sized from the table above. If the app is not in the marketplace, create an Ubuntu server and install it yourself; Docker runs inside VeloxaHost servers.
- Get the data out. Elestio gives you root over SSH, so you can copy the app's data with
rsyncorscp, and you can download a local backup from the service's backups page. Move databases with their own tools (pg_dumpandpg_restore, ormysqldump) rather than copying data files. - Restore the data on the new server, running the same app version as on Elestio, then upgrade once it works.
- Forward the ports the app needs from your server's block on the shared IPv4 address, or add a dedicated IPv4 address for ports 80 and 443. Test the app directly.
- Lower the TTL on your DNS records a day ahead, then update DNS. Delete the Elestio service once traffic has moved: it is billed for every hour it exists, even when powered off.
FAQ
Is VeloxaHost cheaper than Elestio?
On price per app, usually: three small apps cost $16 a month on VeloxaHost against at least $33 on Elestio, from its starting price of $11 per service as of 2026-10-18. Elestio's price includes managed updates, backups and monitoring that you do yourself on VeloxaHost.
Does VeloxaHost update my apps like Elestio?
No. A one-click install sets up the app, and after that the server is yours: you apply OS patches and app upgrades. Snapshots and scheduled backups are included, so you can take a snapshot before an upgrade and roll back if it goes wrong.
Do I get root access on both?
Yes. Elestio lets you connect to a service's VM as root over SSH with your key. Every VeloxaHost server gives you root over SSH on the first port of its block, and also has a browser terminal and a serial console.
How is billing different?
Elestio bills each service by the hour from prepaid credits, and keeps billing while the service exists, even when it is powered off. VeloxaHost bills each server by the hour on your subscription, capped at its monthly price, so the most a server can cost in a month is known in advance.
Can I try VeloxaHost first?
Yes. The 14-day trial needs no credit card and covers 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM, 40 GB of disk and up to 2 instances. Hourly-billed VPS sizes need billing activated, even during the trial. Elestio's free trial is 3 days with $20 of credits.
When should I stay on Elestio?
Stay if you want each app kept patched, updated and backed up for you, need an app or a region VeloxaHost does not offer, or want a support SLA.
