VeloxaHost as a Render alternative
Moving off Render? Compare per-service compute, Postgres and Key Value prices with VeloxaHost's Git-deployed hosting and hourly VPS, for one small app.
Who should switch
Switch if you run a small app on Render that never sleeps, and the bill is mostly the per-service charges: a web service, a worker, a database and Redis, each priced on its own. VeloxaHost sells a fixed amount of CPU, RAM and disk per plan, and you run several processes inside it. Stay on Render if you rely on its managed PostgreSQL, Docker builds, autoscaling or regions outside the US East Coast; those are covered under "Where Render is the better pick" below.
Where Render falls short
Render is quick to start with: connect a GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repository and every push to the branch redeploys. The costs come from how it is priced. Prices below are Render's as of 2026-10-18.
- Every service is billed separately. The smallest paid web service is $7 a month for 0.5 CPU and 512 MB of RAM. The next size is $25 for 1 CPU and 2 GB. Background workers cost the same as web services, and have no free instance type.
- The free tier sleeps. A free web service spins down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic, and starting again takes about a minute. Free instance hours are capped at 750 a month per workspace; when they run out, Render suspends all free web services until the next month.
- The free database expires. A free Render Postgres database expires 30 days after it is created, with a 14-day grace period before it is deleted. Paid Postgres starts at $6 a month for 256 MB of RAM, with storage at $0.30 per GB beyond the 1 GB included.
- Redis is extra too. Render Key Value's free instance has 25 MB and does not persist data. The first paid size is $10 a month for 256 MB.
- Bandwidth is metered. The Hobby workspace includes 5 GB of outbound bandwidth a month and Pro 25 GB; after that it is $0.15 per GB.
How VeloxaHost handles it
- Git deploy for web apps. Hosting plans run PHP, Node, Python and static sites. A deploy pulls a branch from your Git repository, installs dependencies (
npm ciornpm installfor Node, pip install -r requirements.txtfor Python) and restarts the app with the start command you set. Deploys can be started from the console, from a CI webhook, or on an hourly or daily schedule. Each site gets automatic HTTPS. The Launch plan is $6.99 a month for 3 sites with 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM, 20 GB of NVMe storage and backups on the schedule you choose. - A VPS for workers and databases. Root servers start at $4 a month for 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM and 25 GB of disk. They are billed by the hour and capped at the monthly price, so a server you delete after a day costs a day. A worker, a cron job, PostgreSQL and Redis can all share one server.
- One-click databases. The marketplace has 65 apps, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis and Valkey. You deploy them onto your own server, and snapshots and scheduled backups come with every plan.
- What you give up. VeloxaHost does not build Docker images or read a
render.yamlBlueprint, and it does not run your database for you: patching and tuning it is your job. There are no private networks, floating IPs or load balancers in the region yet, so a site reaches its database through a port you forward on the server's shared IPv4 address. VeloxaHost runs one region, US East, in the Washington, DC area.
The pricing math
Take a small production app: a web process, a background worker, a PostgreSQL database under 10 GB, and Redis for a job queue. Nothing sleeps. Render prices are for a Hobby workspace, which costs $0 plus compute.
| Render | VeloxaHost | |
|---|---|---|
| Web app | Web service, 0.5 CPU, 512 MB RAM: $7 | Launch hosting plan, deployed from Git (1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB): $6.99 |
| Worker | Background worker, 0.5 CPU, 512 MB RAM: $7 | Runs on the server below: $0 |
| PostgreSQL | 256 MB RAM: $6, plus 9 GB of storage beyond the included 1 GB at $0.30/GB: $2.70 | Veloxa 1 VPS (1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 50 GB disk) running PostgreSQL from the marketplace: $8 |
| Redis | Key Value, 256 MB: $10 | Installed on the same VPS: $0 |
| Per month | $32.70 | $14.99 |
If the web service needs 1 CPU and 2 GB, Render's web service alone is $25 a month and the Render column becomes $50.70. The next VeloxaHost hosting plan, Grow, is $12.99 a month for 2 vCPU and 4 GB.
Two honest caveats. First, Render's PostgreSQL is managed for you, with point-in-time recovery (3 days on Hobby, 7 on Pro); on VeloxaHost you run the database yourself. Second, Render bills compute by the second and includes 5 GB of bandwidth on Hobby, while VeloxaHost's plan list does not publish a transfer allowance. If your app can sleep and fits Render's free tier for a month, Render costs $0, which is less than any VeloxaHost setup.
VeloxaHost hosting plans billed monthly are 30% off for the first 3 months, which takes Launch to $4.89. Annual billing brings it to $5.83 a month.

Where Render is the better pick
- You want a managed database. Render runs PostgreSQL for you, with logical backups on paid instances and point-in-time recovery.
- You build with Docker or Blueprints. Render builds from a Dockerfile and sets up services from a
render.yamlfile. VeloxaHost's Git deploy installs dependencies and restarts your app, but it does not build containers. - You need autoscaling or preview environments. Both come with a Render Pro workspace ($25 a month plus compute).
- You need more regions. Render deploys to Oregon, Ohio, Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore. VeloxaHost has one region.
- Your app can sleep. A free web service and a static site cost nothing on Render.
Migrating from Render
There is no automatic importer. A move of one app usually goes like this:
- List what the app uses on Render: web services, workers, cron jobs, the Postgres and Key Value instances, any persistent disks, environment variables and custom domains.
- Create a VeloxaHost hosting site and point it at the same Git repository and branch. Node apps install from
package-lock.jsonorpackage.json, Python apps fromrequirements.txt, and you set the start command. - Create a Veloxa 1 server and deploy PostgreSQL from the marketplace, and Redis if you use it. Run the worker on the same server as a service, and move cron jobs to its crontab.
- Export the database. On a paid Render instance, open the database's Recovery page, click Create export and download the archive. On any instance, run
pg_dump --dbname=<EXTERNAL_DATABASE_URL> -n public --no-owner > app.sql. Copy the file to the new server and load it withpsqlinto an empty database. - Set environment variables inside the site or server, for example from the browser terminal, and point
DATABASE_URLat the new database through the port you forwarded for it. Copy files from any Render disk withrsyncorscp. - Lower the TTL on your DNS records a day ahead, test the new site, then update DNS. Delete the Render services once traffic has moved.
FAQ
Is VeloxaHost cheaper than Render?
For an app that runs all the time with a worker, a database and Redis, usually yes: the worked example above is $14.99 a month on VeloxaHost against $32.70 on Render as of 2026-10-18. Render costs less if your app fits its free tier and can sleep, and its database is managed for you.
Does VeloxaHost have a free tier like Render?
No. The 14-day trial needs no credit card and covers 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM, 40 GB of disk and up to 2 instances. After that, hosting starts at $6.99 a month and a VPS at $4 a month, billed by the hour and capped at the monthly price.
Can I deploy from GitHub like on Render?
Yes, but VeloxaHost pulls from your Git repository rather than building on every push by default. You set the repository, branch and optional subdirectory once, then deploy from the console, from a CI webhook (which you can call on every push), or on a schedule. There are no Docker builds or Blueprint files.
How do I move my Render Postgres database?
Download an export from the database's Recovery page on a paid instance, or run pg_dump --dbname=<EXTERNAL_DATABASE_URL> -n public --no-owner > app.sql on any instance. Deploy PostgreSQL from the VeloxaHost marketplace, copy the file to that server and load it into an empty database with psql. Render keeps logical backups for seven days and does not create them for free databases.
Does VeloxaHost have private networking like Render?
Not yet. Private networks, floating IPs and load balancers are not available in the US East region yet. A server is reachable through a block of ports on the region's shared IPv4 address, and a dedicated IPv4 address is a paid add-on while addresses are available.
When should I stay on Render?
Stay if you want Render to run your database, deploy with Docker or Blueprints, need autoscaling or preview environments, or need servers outside the US East Coast. Also stay if your app can sleep on the free tier, because that costs nothing.
