What Is Managed Web Hosting?

Managed web hosting means the host runs the server and you deploy the site. What is managed, when a VPS fits better, and VeloxaHost's hosting plans.

Managed web hosting is a service where the hosting company runs the server and you only look after your website. They install and update the web server, the language runtime and the security settings; you upload or deploy your site. You trade some control for not having to be a server administrator.

How it works

You pick a plan, add your domain and choose what the site runs on, such as PHP, Node.js, Python or plain static files. The host sets up a web server, issues an HTTPS certificate once your domain points at it, and keeps the platform patched. You put your code there by uploading files or, on many hosts, by deploying from a Git repository.

What "managed" covers differs between hosts. Check whether it includes backups, HTTPS, updates of the language runtime, and whether you can still get a terminal when you need one.

When to use it

  • Websites, blogs and web apps built on a common runtime: WordPress, Laravel, Django, Express, static sites.
  • Agencies and freelancers running many small client sites.
  • Anyone who wants HTTPS, backups and updates handled without running a server.

When not to use it

  • You need root, Docker, or a long-running process that is not a website, such as a queue worker or a game server. Use a VPS.
  • You want to self-host an app like n8n or Nextcloud. A one-click app on a VPS suits it better.
  • You want a site without writing code. Try an AI website builder.

How it works on VeloxaHost

Each site is its own isolated environment. HTTPS from Let's Encrypt is issued automatically once your domain points at it.

  • Runtimes. PHP 8.1 to 8.4 (8.3 by default), Node.js 22, Python, or a static site. Classic hosting adds a control panel with MySQL-compatible databases, cron jobs, PHP settings and logs.
  • Deploys. Deploy from Git: pick the branch and subfolder, then deploy by hand, every hour, every day or from a CI webhook.
  • WordPress. One-click WordPress, set up with WP-CLI and a generated admin password shown once.
  • Backups. On the schedule you choose (every 6 or 12 hours, daily or weekly, keeping up to 10), copied off-site.
  • Tools. A browser terminal and a file manager, and DNS zones in the same account.

FAQ

What is the difference between managed hosting and a VPS?

On managed hosting VeloxaHost runs the server and you deploy sites to it. On a VPS you get root and run everything yourself. Both are in the same console and on one invoice.

Do I get HTTPS on managed hosting?

Yes. A Let's Encrypt certificate is issued automatically once your domain points at the site.

Can I deploy from GitHub?

Yes, from a public Git repository: pick the branch and subfolder, then deploy by hand, on a schedule or from a CI webhook.

Can I host WordPress?

Yes. One-click WordPress sets it up with WP-CLI and shows you the generated admin password once.

What does the Launch plan include?

Launch ($6.99 a month) hosts 3 websites with 20 GB of NVMe storage, 1 GB of RAM and 1 vCPU.
